GITEP SCITT is a unique collaboration between all the secondary schools in Gloucestershire who work together in a SCITT (school centred initial teacher training provider). Created in 1997, GITEP SCITT is well established and very highly regarded, offering QTS, PGCE, School Direct Fee Paying and School Direct Salaried routes into teaching. The training offered by GITEP SCITT was judged outstanding by Ofsted in 2015/16.
Most SCITTs are based around one school or one teaching school alliance. Drawing on all 40 secondary schools in the county, as well as some in neighbouring counties, GITEP SCITT is a strategic partner in seven teaching school alliances:
- Balcarras Teaching School Partnership (Balcarras School)
- Odyssey Teaching School Partnership (Pate’s Grammar School)
- Forest Teaching Alliance (Dene Magna School)
- Cotswold Edge Teaching Alliance (Marling School)
- The Crypt School Teaching Alliance
- The Cotswold Teaching School Partnership (The Cotswold School)
- Sir Thomas Rich’s School Teaching School Partnership
A SCITT has to have an accredited school and ours is St Peter’s RC High School, Gloucester. As a partner of GITEP SCITT, the University of Bristol, which was also judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2007/08, awards the PGCE we offer.
This applies to all training routes accredited by GITEP SCITT, including School Direct.
Most trainees do not need to pay tuition fees up front and all eligible trainees are able to apply for a tuition fee loan.
Training Bursaries and Scholarships
There are substantial training bursaries and scholarships available for most subjects. The table below summarises the financial incentives available in 2017/18. Information on bursaries and scholarships can be found on the Get Into Teaching website.
|Bursary Eligibility 2018/19|
|Scholarships||Trainee with first/PhD||2:1/Masters||2:2|
|Design & Technology||£12,000||£9,000||£0|
You don’t need to apply for a bursary. If you are enrolled on a fee paying course and meet the eligibility criteria we will sort this out. You will receive more information on the arrangements prior to the start of your course.
Tuition Fee Loan
As a Home or EU trainee you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan to cover the full cost of the tuition fees charged. You will need to apply for this loan online through Student Finance England.
GITEP Trainee Teacher Fund
The directors of Gloucestershire Association of Secondary Headteachers have established a fund to help trainee teachers who are experiencing financial difficulties. Any awards made do not have to be repaid. The fund is limited and discretionary and we cannot guarantee that an award will be made. Applications can be made at any point in the programme.
Visit the National Academic Recognition Centre (NARIC) website to find out whether your qualifications are of an equivalent level to UK GCSEs, A levels and an undergraduate degree.
As a full time trainee you are able to apply directly to your local council for a council tax reduction/exemption. We will supply confirmation that you are eligible.
